Meeting Spiritual Needs
A Harvest Aid staff member will often visit the children and have the role of a family Chaplin. Bible stories will be shared and the opportunity for every child to hear the gospel. In everything we do, our dedicated staff strives to model Jesus' example of love to children and the community.
NB: We do not give any money to sponsored children or to their families.
What will I get as a sponsor?
In your welcome pack you will receive the photo of your sponsored child as well as their background information. You will be placed on Harvest Aid’s monthly mailing list (either by post or email) which keeps you up to date with all Harvest Aid’s projects, including the Child Sponsorship program.
Within the first few months, you should receive a letter directly from your sponsored child introducing him or herself and her family.
Annually you will receive an update on how your sponsored child is doing as well as receive a new photo.
What does it cost?
We are offering you the opportunity to change the life of one child through a monthly sponsorship of R300 a month that will provide your sponsored child and their family with weekly food parcels, an after school homework monitor, clothing, toiletries and whatever else we can give that will normalise their lives.
This is an exciting opportunity for you to write to, pray for and change the life of a child in need. You can chose to sponsor a child as a group within your church, business, family or alternatively you can take out a half sponsorship of only R150 a month.

Letters to and from the children
Sponsored boys and girls are eager to receive your letters and want to know about the person who is helping them — you! When you write, your sponsored child will benefit from knowing that someone in addition to his or her family really cares. Your words of encouragement will make a big difference to your sponsored child.
Letters are sent through our offices – we want to protect our sponsors’ privacy as well as our children. You may write to your sponsored child as often as you like. You will receive a minimum of two letters a year from your child, and we encourage you to write at least as frequently, even if it's just a brief note or card.
How are children chosen to be in the program?
Children who enter the program are mostly community orphans – that is their parents have passed away and they are now living with either: their grandparents, an older sibling or other relatives. These children are referred to us by teachers from the schools we work with. Other children who have been identified by the schools who are very needy are also place in the program.
Before introducing the child into the sponsorship program, Harvest Aid’s community worker fully explains the concept of child sponsorship to their guardians, they are interviewed and their needs assessed and only once this has taken place are they entered into the programme.
How long is a child in the sponsorship program?
Children can enter the program up until the age of 16, Sponsorships usually will continue till they are 18 however the length of sponsorship will be different for each child. That's because sponsorship is affected by many factors: the child's age when sponsorship begins, the family and community's circumstances and so on.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO PRAY FOR YOUR SPONSORED CHILD!!!
